I was shooting a graduation ceremony last night and at the worst possible time, while the diploma was being awarded, the auto focus on the Nikon D4 went awry. There is no obvious reason that can explain why the subject would be out of focus while using Single-servo, Single-point AF, square on his face. This is the first time the D4 auto-focus system has failed me. All other photos, both before and after, were in focus. If anyone has any theories, please share them with me.

Soccer or Volleyball? Surprising Answer.
Volleyball is quickly becoming one of the most popular school sports these day. If you have any doubts go to a weekend tournament in Texas and see for yourself. After attending one to shoot a friend's kids competing, I was shocked to see the numbers.

Nikon D500 and Girls High School Volleyball in Texas
I had the opportunity to shoot with the new Nikon D500 at a girls high school volleyball game in Texas this week. Using an AF-S 70-700mm f/2.8 VRII with the D500 in shutter priority and manual mode with Auto ISO. This combo provided some amazingly clean files with ISO peaking at 12800. These photos have only minor (1/2 stop) exposure adjustments and no noise reduction. Even with some significant cropping the files are impressive.

Family Pool Phtography
There is really only one way to get great family pool portraits......get in the water. Well that's exactly what I did, but with a little anxiety I might add. With $8500 worth of camera and lens in hand, one slip, well you get the point. Luckily, there was no drama and the client loves the photos. Enough said!
