Nikon D500 and Girls High School Volleyball in Texas

   I had the opportunity to shoot with the new Nikon D500 at a girls high school volleyball game in Texas this week. Using an AF-S 70-700mm f/2.8 VRII with the D500 in shutter priority and manual mode with Auto ISO. This combo provided some amazingly clean files with ISO peaking at 12800. These photos have only minor (1/2 stop) exposure adjustments and no noise reduction. Even with some significant cropping the files are impressive.

Family Pool Phtography

There is really only one way to get great family pool portraits......get in the water. Well that's exactly what I did, but with a little anxiety I might add. With $8500 worth of camera and lens in hand, one slip, well you get the point. Luckily, there was no drama and the client loves the photos. Enough said!

Butterflies in the Garden - Fort Worth Botanical Exhibit

   Every two years the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens has an exhibit displaying butterflies from around the world. The display takes place inside their 10,000 sq ft greenhouse. The butterflies and attendees are free to mingle within the greenhouse and makes for a truly entertaining event.

Candid Kid Photography

   Of all the types of photography I've done over the years the one that always gives me the most satisfaction is candid shots of children. Family photography can be tough. Trying to get everyone at their best at the same time, especially young ones, is truly a challenge. If you're a family photographer you know exactly what I'm talking about. Now, give me a group of kids having fun in almost any type of activity, and let me shoot candids and I'm a happy photographer.
